Introduction of Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS), Nepal
One of Kathmandu University's nine schools offering programs in medicine, nursing, and allied health sciences is the Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS). KUSMS is a joint initiative of Dhulikhel Hospital and Kathmandu University. KUSMS's main office is located in the Kavrepalanchok District of Nepal on the grounds of Dhulikhel Hospital, a hospital affiliated with Kathmandu University. In 1994, KUSMS was established. The first medical college to receive affiliation was Manipal College of Medical Sciences in Pokhara. Since then, KUSMS has awarded affiliation to numerous national medical universities.
On September 7, 2001, KUSMS officially launched its own medical education program, the MBBS program, in collaboration with Dhulikhel Hospital. 43 Nepali students made up the inaugural class.
Every year, KUSMS Day is observed on this day. The name of the medical school was changed to Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS) in 2006 despite the fact that it is still commonly known as KUMS both domestically and abroad. This was due to the fact that the school now offers nursing and allied health science programs in addition to training undergraduate and graduate students in medicine.
The cost of an MBBS degree in 2018 was Rs. 3.7 million (US$31,672), making the school one of the least expensive places to earn a degree. Producing "technically competent and socially responsible" physicians and other medical and nursing professionals is the school's motto. It is a non-profit organization. The organization's primary goal is to help improve the general health status of Nepal.
